I decided that “turning point” was an appropriate label for this issue, one that straddles wintry February and March, the wild first month of spring.
My relatives in Florida think I’m nuts, and they’re right. I am crazy for winter in Oregon. I love stoking the fireplace while sipping something warm and reading under the comforter. A snowfall always is most welcome. Yes, I spend more time indoors when it is cold, but my Florida family does the same during their brutal summers.
Most people see spring as the time of rejuvenation, but for me, the right time to refresh is autumn.
Our resolutions: fix up, tear down, upgrade and get it done.
We’ve christened our August/September issue “transformations” for good reason. The hot, languid days of summer evolve into the cool, crisp days of autumn during this glorious turning point in the seasons. It’s Editor Robin Doussard's favorite time of the year.
It’s true in the best of homes: One day you wake up and realize it’s time to spruce things up. Maybe fix the steps or replace some dated furniture. Definitely ditch the wallpaper. That’s what we’ve done here at Oregon Home: taken stock of what’s working and what’s not and made some changes.
