The deck demo begins

Well, it has started! My deck demo has begun. Here is a before picture of the deck, and here is how it looked by the end of the week. I am so excited I want to bite something.

The work started in late May (beginning of good weather) and will last for about four months. A summer without my deck! So if you drive by my house this summer, shield your eyes. I will sunbathing in the front yard. I have no shame.

I could not be more thrilled about this project. I requested that the guys leave me a path to my container so I can get in and out of my office. Plus from that vantage point I can spy on them very easily. I can also spy on them from the living room (or the “only room,” as I call it), plus the upstairs windows. Poor guys. Working under such conditions. Here’s the container.

As you can see, the container patio is not done yet. (Ha!) Actually, it’s a project yet to be started. At this point we plan it to be a nice mosaic of reclaimed brick and concrete. I can guarantee coolness, just not material source yet. Do you see my NN doors? N for Nancy on each of the perforated metal sliders. I love it out there when the sun shines through the perforated metal.

I will have to leave my house by the front door and walk to the back to get to the container, because the back door now exits onto a six-foot drop. How many times do you think I’ll mess that up and hit the dirt? Hopefully only a couple.

This is the first project where I will have no guys IN THE HOUSE. They are pretty much outside. For some reason I am really excited about that. I love the guys, but I live alone for a reason. I’m a real witch when I have to share space for any length of time with another person. Poor guys. Still.

It is going to be a fantastic summer.
