2013SpringSummer EdLetter 01Every spring I look forward to buying tomato starts. Even though my yard suffers from neglect rooted in lawn hate (I just can’t bring myself to care for a lawn I plan to remove one glorious day), I love my raised garden beds. I can’t remember the last year I didn’t grow tomatoes. Even when I rented a duplex, I’d plant beefsteaks in containers and hope for the best.

2013DecJan EditorsPage 01My relatives in Florida think I’m nuts, and they’re right. I am crazy for winter in Oregon. I love stoking the fireplace while sipping something warm and reading under the comforter. A snowfall always is most welcome. Yes, I spend more time indoors when it is cold, but my Florida family does the same during their brutal summers.
