If you’re a foodie who wants to end up with
a beautifully remodeled kitchen that really lets you cook, Portland designer John Hurst is your man. He is a restaurant and kitchen designer—he did the interiors for Higgins and Southpark in Portland—and an architect by education who took time off from school to work double shifts at cooking apprenticeships in restaurants in Paris. He still has a love of cooking, which informs the kitchen remodels he whips up for his clients. Plus, you’ve got to love a kitchen designer who hangs an over-the-top 17th century-style Murano glass chandelier from Paris in his own kitchen. The transformation of the kitchen and sunroom in his and his partner’s 1913 Craftsman was featured in the Nov.-Dec. 2005 issue of Oregon Home.
